The Women Lawyers’ Forum is the connecting point for women in the legal profession. Through the inter‐lacing of the social and the professional, the Women Lawyers’ Forum provides an opportunity for women in the law to meet, to talk and to get to know each other better, for personal and professional benefit. The Forum organizes several events each year where women can engage, relax and enjoy the company of other women who share the law as a common thread.

Peter Glowacki and John Delaney acted as Co‐Chairs of the Section, Caroline Kiva is Vice‐Chair and Marvin Giesbrecht was a Member‐at‐Large.

This year, the Constitutional/Human Rights Section was Co‐Chaired by Mark Toews of Deeley Fabbri Sellen Law Corporation and Michael Conner from Manitoba Justice, Constitutional Law Branch.   

During the 2011 – 2012 term (September 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012) the Civil Litigation Section sponsored two Continuing Professional Development seminars.   

We are pleased to report that our Section has been fairly active this past year. 

Because the practice of air and transportation law in Manitoba has diminished significantly since the economic de‐regulation of most modes of transport, the Transportation Law Section of the Manitoba Bar Association has been largely dormant.  However, the Chair remains available as a resource in the event that issues or opportunities arise that the MBA wants to consider becoming involved in.   

I have been asked to provide an annual report in respect of the activities of the Manitoba Bar Association's (“MBA”) Technology and Intellectual Property Law Section for the 2011‐2012 programming year.

This year, the Section executive (Co‐Chairs Melanie Bueckert and Darla Rettie, and Vice‐Chair Cynthia Lau) kept busy planning several sessions targeting various practice areas across the private and public bar.  

Here are the events held throughout the year:

The ADR Section has had a transitional year.  Audra Bayer and Kelli Potter were elected as Co‐Chairs of the Section.  Kelli is currently expecting and on leave.  Audra has accepted a position in Kelowna and is leaving the Province effective August 1, 2012.  A notice has gone out to the membership requesting nominations for executive positions.
