In November 2011, the Health Law Section had an excellent presentation by the then provincial Ombudsman, Irene Hamilton and by Gail Perry, Sr. Legislative and Policy Analyst, Manitoba Ombudsman.  They gave a very informative session with respect to developments in privacy and access legislation specific to Manitoba but also with respect to the role and powers of the Ombudsman’s Office

It was in many respects business as usual for our Section this year, carrying on our work to advance the public interest in access to information.  As usual, a lot of our work involved activities and initiatives with the National Section which hosts monthly conference calls and reports from those conference calls were circulated to Section members.

Criminal Justice Section Report 2010‐2011

This seminar was held to discuss the use of laptop computers, Blackberry devices and other electronics in the courtroom and how those technologies ought to be used in the context of the traditions and practices of the Provincial Court.    Panelists included Manitoba Provincial Court Chief Judge Ken Champagne, Tony Kavanagh (Manitoba Justice – Prosecutions) and Tony Cellitti (Phillips,Aiello).

The Manitoba Section and the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association (“CCCA”) on a national level were very active this year.  This Section welcomes both in‐house and private practitioners with common interests.   Regular members of the Section include in‐house counsel employed by businesses, NGO’s, and municipal and government bodies.  Associate members include lawyers from the private bar
