The Labour and Employment Section did not conduct any of its own CPD sessions this past year. 

The Women Lawyers’ Forum is the connecting point for women in the legal profession. Through the inter‐lacing of the social and the professional, the Women Lawyers’ Forum provides an opportunity for women in the law to meet, to talk and to get to know each other better, for personal and professional benefit.  The Forum organizes several events each year where women can engage, relax and enjoy the company of other women who share the law as a common thread.  

The Wills, Estates and Trusts Section had a full program this year.  In October, 2010, Peter Glowacki and Marla Shragge made a presentation with respect to Testamentary Trusts  ‐ The Under Utilized Planning Tool.   

This year the local Section held one meeting, which was a case law review of notable Manitoba and Supreme Court of Canada decisions relating to the Construction Law area.  The Section expressed some interest in having a similar meeting on an annual basis, as well as additional meetings when interesting topics or developments arise that are not already being covered by other MBA Sections.

This last year the Constitutional/Human Rights Section was co‐chaired by Mark Toews of Deeley Fabbri Sellen Law Corporation and Michael Conner from Manitoba Justice ‐ Constitutional Law Branch.

During the 2010‐2011 session (September 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011), the MBA Civil Litigation Section divided its efforts between a scholarly treatise on developments in the law and practical matters.  

The Municipal Law Section had only one meeting in 2011.  The meeting was held at the Public Utilities Board on April 13, 2011.  

We are pleased to report that our section has been fairly active this past year. 

Because the practice of air and transportation law in Manitoba has diminished significantly since the economic de‐regulation of most modes of transport, the Air & Transportation Law Section of the Manitoba Bar Association has been largely dormant.  However, the Chair remains available as a resource in the event that issues or opportunities arise that the MBA wants to consider becoming involved in.
