The Association has been in continuous existence in its present form since 1914. It was incorporated by a Special Act of Parliament on April 15, 1921.

The Manitoba Bar Association was formed in 1911.  A Winnipeg Bar Association had been in operation since June 1906.  On November 10, 1911, during a dinner meeting of the Winnipeg Association, it was decided that the Association would expand to a province-wide organization.
