Past Chair:  Nigel J. Thompson

Since last fall, the Section has held 3 substantive educational sessions.  The first event which took place
in October 2010 consisted of a presentation by John Stefaniuk on The Remediation of a Large Industrial
Contaminated Site. This was a follow‐up to a session from the year before when the members of the
Section were given a tour of this site while the remediation project was in progress.  In November 2010,
the Section held a joint session with the Real Property Section.  The purpose was to hear a presentation
by Pinchin Environmental dealing with the when, how and what of Environmental Site Assessment
Services that a consulting firm can provide.  In March 2011, Julie Frederickson and Leanne Shewchuk
from the Floodway and East Side Road Authority gave a presentation on Environmental Site Assessment
Issues Associated with Development of the East Side Road.  In April 2011, I attended the annual CBA
NEERLS educational conference and business meeting in Banff.  The topic was Water Law Issues.  A wide
range of topical issues were canvassed from across Canada and abroad.  Next year’s NEERLS educational
conference will be in Vancouver with the topic details still being finalized.  The final meeting of the
environmental Section was scheduled for June 14th.  It was very topical as it was a presentation on
Environmental Issues Resulting from a Major Flood Event.

Respectfully submitted,
Stewart Pierce, Chair
