Legal Research Section: Outline of Activities September 1, 2010 to June 30, 201

The focus on skill development for articled lawyers continued with our joint sponsorship (with the Law Society of Manitoba) of the Legal Research Boot Camp. This CPD offered students a full day of training in the practical skill sets of legal research, from the initial interview to preparation of research results. Our Section members delivered content across five key areas of research in June 2010, and again offered training to this year’s articled students on June 17, 2011.

The Legal Research Section continued to provide its members, and beginning this year the membership of other Sections, monthly insight into legislative changes and topical cases of interest through its e‐ newsletter: LLM ‐ The Law and Library Monthly. The LLM was compiled and edited this year by Cynthia Lau, and included topical contributions from Tanya Keller, David Davis, Tony Cellitti, Johanna Caithness, Catherine Skinner, Melissa Burkett, and Vivian Hilder. Nine editions of the LLM ‐ The Law and Library Monthly were produced this year, comprising 216 pages of legislative and case law updates.    Our Section will be holding a Legal Research Roundtable discussion on June 21, 2011, to share research tips and plan events and topics for 2011/2012.

Respectfully Submitted,
Darla Rettie, Co‐Chair
