Labour & Employment Law Section Report 2011‐2012

On Friday November 4, 2011 Kris Gibson presented a noon hour CPD on the topic of Employment‐related Considerations with Electronic Documents, Communications, Internet and Computer Use.  Approximately 40 members attended this session.

A panel was established for the January 2012 Mid‐Winter Conference, consisting of Robin Kersey, Garth Smorang and Janet Mayor, moderated by Adrian Frost.  The panel provided an “Employment Law Update” on a variety of issues, including restrictive covenants and the duty to accommodate.  The session was 2.5 hours in duration and was very well attended.

On Friday, May 25, 2012 Arne Peltz and Blair Graham presented a noon hour CPD on the topic Arbitration Tips: Practice Pros and Cons from the Perspective of the Adjudicators.   Approximately 40 members attended this session.  

On Friday, June 1, 2012 the Section co‐sponsored a noon‐hour CPD with the Constitutional/Human Rights and Aboriginal Sections.    Michael Conner and Mark Toews presented on the topic of Case Law Update:  NIL/TU,O and Labour Relations in the First Nations context.    The session was attended by approximately 30 people and generated a significant amount of discussion on the topic by those in attendance.

All of the foregoing sessions were attended by a great mix of senior and junior practitioners (and those falling in between).
